about

Thirty years after The Firesign Theatre’s historic Dear Friends broadcasts, XM Satellite Radio offered the quartet a chance to gather around the microphones once again for a monthly two-hour show in 2001-2002.

Performed live on the satellite to an unknown, but certainly small audience, Fools in Space combined newly-written comedy sketches, new episodes of serial classics Nick Danger and Mark Time, and lots of riff-tacular open space for politics and the news of the day, Firesign-style.

The looming war in Afghanistan echoes events that had marshaled “Fighting Clowns” twenty years before. Once again, the time seemed uniquely right for Firesign to be together on the radio. This reissue presents all eleven original live broadcasts of Fools in Space cut down to remove commercial breaks and non-Firesign prerecorded music cuts, and adds a bonus, never-broadcast preview episode recorded in August 2001, as well as original promos used to advertise the show on XM. So tune in again, like you did (or didn’t) before—Firesign is on!

Includes a 14-page PDF with vintage photos and complete episode rundowns.
